Variscite aims for industry's fastest ARM module

Dual core Cortex-A9 SoM provides Atom performance

By Nick Flaherty

Israeli embedded board maker Variscite is aiming to provided the industry's fastest ARM System-on-module (SoM) by using a OMAP4 1.5GHz dual core processor from Texas Instruments.
Using TI's OMAP4460 mobile processor fives VAR-SOM-OM44 board a wide range of target markets requiring rich multimedia functionality, advanced graphics and video capabilities, together with high-processing power. Compact, cost effective and power efficient, the VAR-SOM-OM44 secures an Intel's Atom performance level.
"We wanted to introduce a level of performance previously unavailable on ARM-based embedded solutions," said Oren Rokach, Variscite's Chief System Architect. "This ground breaking addition to our System on Module portfolio combines unique interface flexibility with advanced power management, providing the ultimate solution for a variety of applications."

The OMPA4 processor includes PowerVR 2D and 3D graphics acceleration from Imagination Technologies and supports leading operating systems including the Ice Cream Sandwich latest version of Android alongside more embedded OSs.
"We are proud to work with Variscite to provide TI's smart multicore OMAP 4 platform to OEMs developing products that require the highest-performance at ultra low power. Our relationship with Variscite guarantees full access and support for these customers, along with the ability to leverage the OMAP platform's industry-leading features and capabilities. This reiterates our team's goal of bringing extraordinary user experiences to game-changing end devices with OMAP processors inside," said Michael Schoonover, Business Development Director, Enterprise Business Line - Wireless Business Unit.
